Tooth fairy finance

In Spain and Italy, it’s a Tooth Mouse called Perez that visits in the night, leaving a gift under the pillow in exchange for the baby tooth.

In some Asian countries, children throw their lost teeth onto the roof ( if it was from the lower jaw) or under the floorboards ( if from the upper jaw). In the Middle East you might throw your lost tooth up in the air to Allah.

The Vikings wore children’s teeth as a necklace as they believed that this would bring good luck in battle (whether or not the teeth actually fell out of their own accord is another matter…).

Our own Tooth Fairy in England has been around for many years in one form or another and appears to be remarkably inconsistent in her (or his?) dealings.

A straw poll of our staff at Cleveland Orthodontics has revealed quite a variation in dental compensation. An unlucky and still resentful few got nothing whatsoever!

Others received some ancient coinage known as a “shilling” or a “sixpence”.

The remainder of our team report an under-the-pillow return of anywhere between 10p and £1.

But it’s the dental-savvy youngsters of today who have smashed through the £1 barrier with figures as high as £2 being quoted.

How much did you get ( if anything)…and how long before this bubble bursts?
