It took me a long time to pluck up the courage to ask my dentist about having braces, I think seeing a colleague with them gave the final push as I realised that it was becoming more acceptable for adults to have them.
I had always been very conscious of my teeth and would avoid photographs at all costs! In company I would cover my mouth when I laughed.
My own dentist referred me to Cleveland Orthodontics although I did have to have two teeth out with my own dentist before I started my treatment.
The whole experience was great, the staff were very friendly and my appointments were always quick and on time so I was able to fit them in around work.
Even whilst the braces were still on I felt so much more confident, I had a photograph taken at a wedding during my treatment and my husband commented on the difference in my ‘smile’ as I beamed out of the picture!
My whole treatment lasted about 15 months and apart from being a bit careful about what I ate (some things do attach themselves to your braces more that others!) it was no problem at all. My teeth were a little bit tender each time the brace was tightened but it only lasted a couple of days.
Since having the braces off we have had a family portrait taken and I was quite happy to smile at the camera. It has improved my self confidence and I now like showing off my smile.
My only regret is that I waited all those years before I plucked up the courage to do it!
