Retainers hold your teeth straight and are used as a follow up to the fixed brace treatment. They reduce the risk of teeth going crooked again after treatment.
They need to be worn for a minimum of one year. However, we advise that retainers are worn on a long term basis, as teeth can move throughout life.
We provide “invisible” retainers for all of our patients. These are comfortable to wear and have a good appearance. They can usually be worn just at night time.
It is extremely important that you wear your retainers as we advise. Otherwise, your teeth may not stay straight.
If you lose or break your retainers, it is important that you telephone the practice as soon as possible so that we can arrange an appointment for you to get them replaced.
There is a charge for replacement retainers and we will let you know what this when you ring for your appointment.
